Freelance Web developer Edinburgh
I am a freelance web developer from Edinburgh. I setup Adaptic Design as a way to showcase my work as a web developer as well asa way to share programming and developer tips and tricks.
About Me
I am a PHP developer from Edinburgh, Scotland. I can do all sorts of development work as I’ll work to whatever the client requirements are. This can often mean learning something new as I develop although I have never yet failed to complete a project. My most common tasks are bespoke content management systems, using APIs, building e-commerce websites and other more bespoke web applications.
Tools of choice
As mentioned above my chosen web programming language is PHP. It’s the most used and supported web programming language and no other languages have convinced me that it would be worth switching. I have also worked with Python with the Django framework although it is not my favoured language.
I use two PHP frameworks although not together. These are Codeigniter which is one of the most used frameworks on the net and also the Yii framework. Codeigniter was my first choice framework and was what I used although I am currently in the middle of switching to the Yii Framework. I am writing my own content management system using the Yii framework which will eventually become my main tool when it is complete. This is called Yiisy and will be available as open source software when complete.
I am also experienced in developing with WordPress although it is not my first choice as it can be limited for more complex websites. It is very good for a portfolio style site (like this one) and is great for a blog.
For E-commerce websites most of my experience is with JSHOP and Open Cart although I am currently changing over to use CS-Cart for small to medium shops and Magento for large shops.
Search Engine Optimisation
I have good knowledge of on-site SEO which I take into consideration with all development. I will consider best SEO practices for developing although I am not an SEO expert. An SEO expert is a whole new job in itself and you shouldn’t expect a web developer to be a SEO expert.
